6 Tips For Remembering What You Read

1–2 minutes

Perhaps you read voraciously but tend to forget most of what you read. If that’s the case, here are a few tips for recall:

  1. Learn speed-reading. I don’t mean scanning. Genuine speed reading (outspend your tongue, minimized sub-vocation; see words in groups, visual reading) contributes to improving comprehension.
  2. Read on subjects you enjoy.
  3. Create outlines (read a chapter, close the book, and outline the key points you read).
  4. Think about what you read and plan to remember the key points throughout the day. Eventually, it will become a habit.
  5. Tell a loved one or an audience, or yourself what you read.
  6. Read when you are fresh instead of when you are tired.
