Hi, I’m Haron Wachira. A Christian.
After two careers, one in publishing and another in systems development, my wife Margaret and I now live out in the country, in Thumaita East, Kirinyaga, where we are blessed with clean air, lots of water and greenery all around us! We are also blessed with two married girls and, at the time of writing, five grand children.
I work with farmers and the urban informal sector on community organization for security, governance and value-chain linked production, seeking to optimize production efficiencies and market linkages for the benefit of the primary producer.
I was elected an Ashoka Fellow in 2010 for an ‘entire value chain’ intervention model for rural wealth creation. Earlier on, in 2005, President Mwai Kibaki had awarded me a ‘Head of State Commendation’ for my humble contributions in the water sector while I served as Chairman, Tana Water Services Board.
Ati (did you ask), what do I do with my spare time? Well, I read the Bible, for one, and also write fiction. And plant trees. And, when invited, I speak in churches and in entrepreneurship workshops. I also mentor young people and promote holistic development.
